The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) seeks a visionary academic leader and experienced administrator with a strong record of leadership, scholarship and teaching for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The new provost will assume office as early as January 2013 or as late as summer 2013.

Founded in 1855, TCNJ is a highly selective public institution that has earned national recognition for its commitment to excellence. TCNJ emphasizes the undergraduate residential experience and offers targeted graduate programs. The College's seven schools - The Arts and Communication; Business; Humanities and Social Sciences; Education; Science; Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science; and Engineering - offer degrees to nearly 7,000 students. The College's distinguished faculty of 348 full-time members provides a 13 to 1 student to faculty ratio, and eighty-five percent of classes have enrollments of 30 or fewer. TCNJ's picturesque campus is located on 289 tree-lined acres in suburban Ewing, approximately five miles from New Jersey's state capital of Trenton, and 60 minutes from both Philadelphia and New York City. A 95 percent freshman to sophomore retention rate and a six-year graduation rate of 86 percent speak to the quality of the TCNJ experience.

For the 19th consecutive year, TCNJ was rated the No. 1 public in the category "Best Regional Universities (North)"; in U.S. News & World Report. It is ranked as one of the 75 "Most Competitive" schools in the nation by Barron's Profiles of American Colleges and is considered a "Best Buy" in higher education by both Barron's and Kiplinger's Personal Finance. Among its many academic accomplishments, in 2006 TCNJ became home to a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa national honors society.

Reporting directly to President Barbara Gitenstein, TCNJ's provost provides bold leadership and strategic vision for all institutional endeavors. The next provost will promote academic excellence and faculty scholarship, close coordination between TCNJ's units, and collaborative partnerships between student and academic affairs; provide leadership for faculty development and retention; foster a culture of shared governance; provide skillful oversight of financial resources; celebrate the College's living-learning community; and implement an institutional vision consistent with TCNJ's mission and core beliefs.

The successful candidate will possess the appropriate terminal degree in her/his discipline, a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with full professor status at TCNJ, and exemplary experience in academic administration, reflective of TCNJ's own high standards.
